Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the BoardGameBrain website, iOS application, accounts, chat, purchases, and related services operated by SpecialGlasses LLC (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

BoardGameBrain provides a public board-game catalog and automated rules, research, and strategy features. Catalog browsing and game details may be used without an account. Asking questions or submitting photos on the website requires a signed-in account with an active paid subscription. iOS access and feature availability may differ by plan and platform.

Subscriptions and credit packs pay for BoardGameBrain's automated answering, research, analysis, and processing capacity. They do not sell or grant access to rulebooks or other third-party source documents. BoardGameBrain does not provide full rulebooks as paid downloads or as a subscriber document library.

The Service may change as game data, rulebooks, provider availability, and product features change. We may impose reasonable credit, rate, safety, and technical limits.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must consent to your use. Only an adult or another person with legal authority may purchase a subscription or credit pack.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information, keep credentials secure, and promptly tell us about suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity under your account. Do not share, sell, rent, or transfer an account or paid access. One person may not use multiple accounts to evade credit, rate, or security controls.

4. Acceptable use

You may use the Service for personal and other lawful board-game assistance. You may not:

• Break the law, violate another person's rights, or submit content you lack permission to use.
• Automate, scrape, crawl, bulk download, benchmark without permission, or use bots against the Service or catalog.
• Resell responses, access, accounts, subscriptions, data, or credit packs.
• Bypass or interfere with authentication, subscriptions, entitlements, credit controls, rate limits, source policies, security controls, or technical restrictions.
• Probe, reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or introduce malicious code into the Service, except where applicable law expressly permits limited reverse engineering.
• Use the Service to develop a competing model or dataset from systematic extraction of outputs, rulebook material, or game data.

Public game data and artwork remain subject to their source terms. These Terms do not grant bulk-reuse rights to BoardGameGeek data or third-party rulebooks.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of content you submit. You grant us and our service providers a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, reproduce, process, transmit, and display that content only as reasonably needed to provide, secure, support, troubleshoot, and evaluate the quality of the Service or comply with law. This license ends when the content is deleted from the active Service, except for backups, provider-side retention, de-identified records, and legal or audit obligations described in the Privacy Policy.

We do not sell your content. We do not authorize our AI providers to use API content to train their general models. You are responsible for removing personal or confidential material that is not needed for your board-game question.

6. Subscriptions, renewals, and credit packs

Prices, billing periods, included access, and applicable taxes are shown at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. Purchases made in the iOS app are billed and managed by Apple. Purchases made on the website are sold by SpecialGlasses LLC and processed through RevenueCat Web Billing and its connected payment provider. The store where you subscribed controls the available cancellation method. At launch, paid website checkout is presented only to visitors located in the United States and is intended only for United States customers; public browsing and other available non-purchase features are not restricted by this checkout limitation.

• Cancel before the next renewal through Apple subscription settings or the originating web customer portal. Deleting the app or your BoardGameBrain account does not cancel billing.
• Plan access may work across platforms when purchases are attached to the same signed-in BoardGameBrain account. Creating separate subscriptions can result in duplicate charges.
• Credit packs are available only to eligible subscribers. A pack adds the credits displayed at checkout; different tasks may cost different numbers of credits. Credits have no cash value, are not transferable, and do not independently provide subscription access.
• Purchased credits currently do not expire while the account remains available, but they may become inaccessible after account deletion or termination. Promotional credits may have separate conditions.

Apple handles App Store refund requests under its rules. Web charges are final and non-refundable except where a refund is required by law or SpecialGlasses LLC expressly approves one. Contact BoardGameBrain support if you believe a charge was unauthorized, duplicated, incorrect, or legally refundable. We may correct entitlement or credit balances after a refund, chargeback, reversal, fraud finding, or processing error. Read these subscription and credit disclosures before purchasing.

7. Automated answers, game rules, and third parties

BoardGameBrain uses automated systems. Answers, citations, identifications, recommendations, and strategy suggestions may be incorrect, incomplete, outdated, or based on a different edition. Always defer to the official rulebook, publisher ruling, and the rules agreed by your table. The Service is for entertainment and informational use, not professional advice.

Game data and artwork may be provided by BoardGameGeek, and rulebook content belongs to its publisher or other rights holder. Third-party links and services are governed by their own terms and do not imply endorsement unless expressly stated.

8. BoardGameBrain rights

The Service, branding, interface, software, and original content are owned by SpecialGlasses LLC or its licensors. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the Service. Feedback you voluntarily provide may be used without restriction or compensation, without identifying you publicly.

9. Availability and disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, that every game or rulebook is covered, or that every response is accurate. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so they may not apply to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpecialGlasses LLC and its providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or loss of data, profits, goodwill, or use arising from the Service. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for the Service during the 12 months before the claim or USD $50. This does not limit liability that cannot legally be limited.

11. Suspension, termination, and account deletion

You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time. We may limit, suspend, or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create security or legal risk, fail to pay, misuse the Service, or if continued operation is no longer practical. Where reasonable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to address the issue.

Account deletion is irreversible, may make unused purchased credits inaccessible, and does not cancel an external subscription. Certain payment, refund, security, support, and audit records may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes and general terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date and, when appropriate, notified through the website, app, or account email. If you do not agree, stop using the Service before the changes take effect.

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them as part of a reorganization, financing, or transfer of the Service. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and checkout disclosures are the agreement between you and us about the Service, subject to mandatory rights under applicable law.

These Terms and disputes relating to them are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Except where applicable law requires another forum, the state and federal courts located in Orange County, California have exclusive jurisdiction. This choice of law and forum does not deprive you of consumer protections, remedies, or jurisdictional rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
